You don't necessarily need a bottom rail, can just use wire along the bottom, pulled tight and hog ringed to the chainlink fabric. I did a combo of digging& pounding the posts in place, and used some Sika foam at the gates, to avoid the hassle of concrete. Also I bought some nice massdam stretcher clamps from amazing-on (hint) to pull the fabric tight to the terminal posts, no need for a jack and rake or whatever they used.

If it is layed down flat it has to settle in the upright position for 24 hours. I need to tilt my fridge to move it to the garage.....is that ok to use the same day? Or does it have to settle for a day?

You only dug down 3-3.5 miles inches (you recommended 4-6). The rock and sand would make it more level for you next time. My only recommendation is that you dig your cup trench before you lay down the fabric you may actually get weeds in that area.

Thank you. I've never planted anything. I had my landscaper plant our lilacs, and they were dying. I dug them up, and he just planted them down without breaking up the roots. Im sure that is why they weren't doing great. I didn't know if I did the right thing, but had a feeling I needed to break up the compacted roots. Im so glad I did.

First: NEVER set your post in cement! The post will rot out in a few years from the caustic reaction of the concrete. Also, as the post shrinks as it dries, gap between the post and the concrete will appear and water will accumulate next to the post, causing the post to rot. Remember! These posts and rails are treated by being DIPPED, in a preservative, they are NOT Pressure Treated. The only company that I have found that actually pressure treats their posts and rails is Yellow Wood. Finally, the split rail fence has been around for over a century and it was designed to keep livestock confined. This gal has zero idea what she is talking about. H.D. should be embarrassed for putting it out. This post was written by a Home Depot Pro Contractor who has split rail fences on his property, so I know what I am talking about. P.S.: It is better to use washed gravel to tamp the post in. It will not settle over time and does not shrink like soil does.
